On April 24, 2025, GCSF brought its training and education series to New York City College of Technology (City Tech) in a combined live and online program titled Print Workflow Workshop with Adobe Firefly.
Presented by GCSF Board Trustee and Adobe applications expert Amybeth Menendez, the workshop briefed students of City Tech’s Department of Communication Design (COMD) on the creative and prepress tools available to them in Adobe software for print production. Alumni of GCSF – students who have received scholarship grants from the Foundation – also took part through a livestreamed broadcast of the presentation.
Menendez, an Adobe Certified Instructor, reviewed essential workflow tips for users of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. She also introduced the class to Adobe Firefly, a solution for creating video, audio, and graphic images with the help of generative AI. Advice on color management and prepress best practices rounded out the session, in which Menendez highlighted numerous techniques for making job files print-ready.
The program was part of an ongoing collaboration between GCSF and COMD, which offers the City University system’s only NASAD-accredited BFA in Communication Design. For several years, the Foundation has supported COMD with cash grants it uses to augment its teaching resources. COMD Associate Professor Eli Neugeboren, who hosted the workshop, is a member of the GCSF Board of Trustees.
GCSF’s ongoing programs in training and education work hand in hand with its scholarships and mentoring opportunities to prepare the next generation of the graphic communications workforce for careers in the field.
